Erica Tait – Lawyer at McCarthy Hansen, Toronto

Erica Tait

Partner

Called to the Ontario Bar in 2008, Erica has practiced family law exclusively since 2013. She represents and advises clients on all issues of divorce and separation, property equalization, spousal and child support, custody and parenting arrangements, and separation agreements and other domestic contracts (marriage and cohabitation agreements). Prior to focusing on family law, Erica practiced corporate commercial litigation at a top-tier multi-national law firm.

Drawing on her corporate background, Erica regularly works on cases involving complex financial and property arrangements where family, business, tax and trusts law often intersect. Where possible, Erica prefers to resolve matters by way of negotiated settlement tailored to each family’s unique needs and desired outcomes. Where an out of court settlement is not possible, Erica is a strong and determined litigator. She has appeared at all levels of court in Ontario, as well as the Court of Queen’s Bench in Alberta and the Nova Scotia Supreme Court and Court of Appeal.

Erica appreciates that her clients are often working through one of the most difficult times in their lives. Personally, she strives to achieve an outcome that lays a foundation for each client’s future success. Erica wants her clients to feel empowered and to embrace the next chapter of their lives with courage, confidence and optimism.

Erica is a member of the Advocate’s Society, the Ontario Bar Association, and Collaborative Divorce Toronto. She has served on the executive committee of the Family Law Group of the Advocate’s Society and is currently a member of the Bench and Bar Committee. Erica also volunteers with the Walsh Family Law Moot each year.
