Valarie represents and advises clients on all issues related to divorce, custody and access, spousal and child support, division of property, separation agreements, and domestic/marriage contracts. She joined McCarthy Hansen & Company LLP in 2016. Prior to joining MHC, Valarie practiced competition and antitrust law in Washington, D.C. and Toronto. She regularly appears in court and represents clients in private mediations and arbitrations.
Valarie is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Family Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association, the Family Lawyers Association, The Advocates’ Society, and the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers. Valarie is a graduate of Harvard Law School, where she was recognized for her commitment to pro bono work, and she holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with High Honors from the University of Georgia.
Valarie is an active member of the legal community as a mentor for Black Future Lawyers and the NCA Network, which is an organization for law students and lawyers in Canada who have degrees from international universities. Valarie also sits on the board of The June Callwood Centre for Young Women (Jessie’s Place) which provides educational and social supports for young people who are pregnant and parenting. She lives in Toronto with her husband, three children, and a dog named Moose.
